Questions That You Should Ask Your Estate Agent.

Posted on 9 March 2020

On your journey towards purchasing a property, you should always ask the agent lots of questions to make sure you are making the correct purchase. If you do not ask any questions, then you may purchase a property without full knowledge of the background of it, whether it is based within a friendly neighborhood and why the current landlord is deciding to sell.

In this blog, I will give you sample questions which you can use, that will help you get a better insight into the property that you are looking to purchase, with each question, I will explain why you should ask the question.

Question 1: Why is the owner selling the property?

This is probably one of the most important questions to ask, this is because there will always be a reason why someone has decided to sell their property, you need to know whether they are just looking to relocate, or whether there is any negative reasons to why. For example, if the owner is selling because they have a noisy neighborhood, then you need to find this out before purchase unless you want to have an unpleasant surprise while moving in.

Question 2: How long has the property been on the market for?

This is an important question to ask because if the property has been on the market for a while, then it is clear that the property isn’t very desired and may be hard to sell on in the future.

Question 3: What is the smallest price the owner will settle for?

Why not try and purchase the property for as little as possible, if the owner says no less than the asking price then you are not losing anything, however if they are willing to accept a smaller offer then you can save a little bit of money. Why would you want to pay more than you need to?

Question 4: How long did the current owners live there for?

If the current owner has decided to sell up after a small amount of time, then that is a fairly worrying sign. If you are looking for a property to purchase, you are looking for a long term option not short! They are very expensive so you have to do as much as you can to not waste the money.
